A. Magill
Born in County Down, Northern Ireland in 1962, A. Magill studied at St. Martins School of Art
in London.
Magill’s images have always fascinated the viewer; the narrative compositions draw us in and we cannot pass by without speculating on the possible relationships we see before us.
Held by these images we perceive a mood, an atmosphere, generated not only by the colour palette and use of light, but also by the relationships between the figures. Continuing to observe a painting we may discover that our original understanding was incorrect and we are compelled to look for further clues, searching to comprehend the sometimes ambiguous and haunting scene before us.
The painter’s subjects are placed in the twentieth century, but they have a timeless quality crossing back and forth over the generations.
In Magill’s words, the fundamental aspect of the work is that of “embarking on a journey” and of trying “to portray poignant moments, crucial moments of decision”
