Jeremy Dickinson
Born in Halifax, Yorkshire in 1963, Jeremy Dickinson studied Fine Art at Goldsmith's College, London, graduating in 1986.
He has exhibited widely since then, with numerous one-person and group exhibitions in the USA, Europe and Japan. In 2004, a ten-year survey exhibition of paintings was shown at Horsens Kunstmuseum in Denmark, and a comprehensive catalogue was published to coincide with the exhibition.
Toy cars have been the principal subject of the paintings since the mid 1990’s. The earliest work depicted toy buses, which the artist had kept since childhood. Other vehicles have since been bought from flea markets and car boot sales, so the most recent paintings include a mixture of his own toys from childhood, and those of anonymous previous owners. All show much evidence of past play, with chips, dents, rust and missing tyres. The backgrounds are always abstracted, so the vehicles appear stacked in imaginary junkyards, or lined up in pretend car parks.
Jeremy Dickinson lives and works in London.
